Mr. Owlton’s line of work is finally revealed. Now we know how he supports his weird family. I think it’s safe to say he’s got some serious job security with the perceptive powers on display in this strip.

Speaking of this strip, it was written by my good friend, Marco Jimenez. He’s a marvelous illustrator and I’d hoped he’d be able to do the art for the strip, but unfortunately he’s also a busy fellow. You should take a look at his art, maybe?

Memes again! This David Caruso meme is one of the funnier ones I’ve seen on the internet. Unlike lolcats and Rick Rolling, it doesn’t rely on Non-Sequitors, blending wit and campiness into a cool frothy smoothie of ridiculousness. David Caruso alone is hilarious enough, but the addition of cheesy one liners is just the icing on the cake.

Memes are strange things. The idea of a thought gaining its own independent momentum is almost scary, but it’s pretty clear that it occurs. With the birth of the internet, ideas evolve and shift in new ways (often stupid ones) and can result in revived careers, nearly destroying old folks’ birthday parties, and cats. Did I mention cats? This is just a new step in something that has existed for centuries, the fact that ideas take on a life of their own. That stories, however inane, ridiculous, or astounding they might be, have a gravity of their own and exert a form of attraction on human minds. We are gripped by ideas, whether they are lolcats (this is, sadly, increasingly more frequent) or a brilliant line from a play (this is, sadly, increasingly less frequent), and we cannot help but repeat them. There has been discussion about this as a type of intellectual evolution, the ecology of thoughts.

Honestly, I’m not sure what to think about that, personally. It’s certainly an interesting concept and overall, if it is true, it seems to lead to better things, better thoughts. That, to me, is the essence of life and thought: improvement.

Speaking of improvement, I’m sorry for the late strips this week, I’ve been recovering slowly from SPX last weekend and I had my first real week of classes to contend with. I’m already working on Tuesday’s strip today to ensure that they go up promptly at midnight on update days again! Of course, it could be worse, but I like making sure you have something to read before school or work if that’s your sort of thing 🙂
