Maybe unicorns are your thing as well?
I’ve got to remember to fix the banner to accurately reflect what days I’m updating and to get my gallery stuff up this week. I’m too tired right now to think of anything else to say so I’ll just say this.

…Maybe she has a great personality?
I hope everyone liked Sweet Will’s contribution on Friday. We are now back to our regularly scheduled Happle Tea updates, however! Tuesdays and Fridays are feeling pretty good so this may be what we end up with for the year.
I went through the archives earlier and organized everything a little more neatly. All comics done beforethe site was actually up are now archived in May, 2009. Everything after that is automatically archived on the appropriate day. This makes it easier to browse the older, more shoddy comics.
I’m working on a few things right now that I’m hoping everyone will like. First, I’m writing a graphic novel and doing some concept sketches for it that I’ll probably be sharing soon to get some feedback. That’s the big one at the moment. Second, I’m working on a personal gallery website that I can post REALLY good things that I’ve done as a sort of online portfolio. I’m planning to put some of the things I’ve done in school up there as well as some really finalized drawings I’ll be working on. I’ll probably have a section for sketches as well. Finally, I’m getting a donation button that doesn’t look horrible put up. If people would like to contribute to my groceries and rent, it will be there. If not, no biggie, I do these comics because they are fun and I just hope people like them.
I’m also waiting for approval from Project Wonderful so I can put up some advertisements for other comics here. Once I start getting some better traffic, it could really help me out.
Oh, and I just picked up a couple of volumes of a comic called Mouse Guard that is absolutely fantastic. Beautiful artwork, interesting story, and smoothly written dialogue make it one of my favourite things ever. Maybe you should check it out?

Today’s strip is brought to us by my best bro, Wiliam Gibbons, writer and artist of Para-Ten and co-founder of Ten Thousand Masks Studios. The best part about this strip is that it is actually a direct transcript of events during one session of my art history class, albeit with an imagined conclusion from William’s own imagination.
Is it true that I can unhinge my jaw? Yes. That I am a cannibal? Yes. Did I actually eat those people on that fateful day? I plead the fifth.
Thanks to Sweet Will for the strip today! If you haven’t read Para-Ten yet, please do, it is a lovely comic and deserving of your attentions and love.
Regular strips resume on Tuesday. I think I can handle Tuesday/Friday updates from now on.
It’s like a goddamn M. Night Shyamalan movie! The Owling!
Yes, another strip involving owls. I am a man obsessed. This I know. Hey, at least we’re learning more about the main character, am I right?! Lololol!
Why do you think it is that every time an owl crops up in his life, K’s mind immediately jumps to murder?
And why, exactly, does the combination of bow tie, top hat, monocle, and revolver make something Dire? I’m not sure.
Edit: We’re trying to update on Tuesdays and Fridays now, seeing as how I work weekends. It gets tiring and difficult to try to write and draw after work.
This strip has nothing to do with Harry Potter. I assure you. That said, one can never be certain that their neighborhood is not, in fact, playing host to witchery.
God makes his triumphant return in cat form. I’m still not sure why he chooses to look like that, but I’m certain there’s a reason.
My good friend Sweet William, of Para-Ten fame, is going to be supplying a guest strip at some point, probably next week. Prepare for greatness! I don’t plan to allow a lot of guest strips but William is awesome and it will give me some time to relax. Working on the art for the strip takes a few hours, but writing can take a long time to come up with ideas I think are really worthy of being posted on the interwebs.
I wanted to say thanks to everyone leaving comments and telling their friends! I always appreciate the help and the kind words. I can’t explain how much doing this comic for a living (even a bit of one) would appeal to me, and getting the word out is step one!
So thanks! <3
Insanity is relative. It’s really all just a matter of perspective. Some people choose to express their insanity in creative ways: writers, artists, ice sculpture enthusiasts. Lil K chooses to express himself through murder egged on by his stuffed avian friend.
Sorry the strip is a bit late today, work had tired me out and I was having a tough time writing. I’m still trying to figure out this uStream thing before I attempt to do a Live Drawing of the strip. I’m also still working on some t-shirt and print ideas as well as figuring out how I’m going to run the store…
In other news, we’re all completely doomed. Scientists have, apparently, created a bionic goose. I almost wrote a strip about it involving Fabio but I guess it was just too obscure. Did you know that Fabio got hit in the face with a goose a number of years ago? He was on a rollercoaster, a fact which makes the already hilarious event infinitely more hilarious. In spite of being completely ridiculous, Fabio seems like a nice guy. I’d have a beer with him.
This comic is based off the new series of advertisements being rolled out by Scientology Corp. That first one sounds a bit like Fight Club which is sad, though they’re really quite insidious and disgusting, when you take a moment to think about them. It furthers my opinion that religions pulling in money from parishioners as well as vile cults like Scientology should be made to pay taxes. People are too easily fleeced. If you need to put out advertisements for your church or cause you deserve to pay taxes like everyone else.
Phew, that said, I love Pokemon, I’m not afraid to admit it. My favourite has always been Eevee and his evolutionary pals.
The site is now, seemingly, updating on Mondays AND Fridays. Hopefully I can keep up the pace. I’ve been thinking about doing a series of live drawing sessions for people to watch while I draw. Unfortunately, it takes me a while to do the work so I dunno how successful it’d be. Doing a complicated comic that goes beyond just talking heads takes some time, generally between 3-5 hours for a single strip. Hmm…
I also talked with Coe, the ringleader over at Xenostarz and he’s looking at some handy storefront stuff for the website. I’m trying to figure out what I might offer for merchandise that people would enjoy. I’m thinking probably HT related prints and maybe t-shirts if I can find some place that does a good job for cheap. Cafe Press does not fit either of these criteria.
Whenever I try to start thinking positively, I am invariably slapped down by a be-tentacled monster. Maybe this has happened to you?
I want to say thank you to everyone checking out the strip and leaving comments. I have had very few comments I’ve needed to moderate and that’s a nice feeling. I understand this comic can come across as potentially inflammatory but that’s not what I’m shooting for. This is just a way for me to get my thoughts out and point out things I think are generally pretty silly about life and humanity. If you feel offended by the comic, by all means, cease reading it. It probably won’t get any better for you.
However, if you are a religious person with a sense of humor, there may be strips you enjoy, it is not all about religion after all.
I hope all of my American readers have had a lovely fourth of July. I may not be into insane displays of patriotism, but I do feel like America has a lot going for it. It’s nice to live in a country where we can be free to celebrate, worship, or draw comic strips however we please. It may not be perfect and it may be hurtful to other parts of the world at times, but the people that live here are generally nice and I think it’s cool to recognize a really awesome revolution.
*Sorry, the strip is supposed to be up at 9am on Monday and Friday but I can’t figure out the scheduled posting on comic press…it doesn’t seem to work. Also, I overslept today
And you thought it’d be a strip about Michael Jackson or Billy Mays! Hah! Gotcha.
This strip illustrates how we sometimes fail to understand what someone else is getting at. Sometimes this lack of understanding involves slow moving, tree dwelling mammals.
I’m trying to see if I’m able to do comics twice a week, at the moment. Ideally, I would love to do them three times a week, but I spend a lot of time on the artwork so that may not be possible what with work and school. I will have to consult Sasquatch to see if I have the time.
I worked hard on this strip to see if I could push the look of it a little further and I’m pretty pleased with the result. I mean, sure it’s just a goofy comic strip, but I like to spend time to give it a little extra something in the looks department.
Also, if you’re posting comments and would like to use an avatar of your own choosing, you can get an account here at Gravatars
Gravatars are usable on most wordpress blogs these days it seems.
Hardcore Republican politicians will always kick and thrash and scream about the same tired bullshit. Grow up, you fucking babies!
That said, the Happle Tea site is now completed. Users can comment on comics, but require at least one previously accepted comment before they can post regularly. I’ve also allowed gravatar images to be used as icons. It took me a week of hard work but I’m glad it’s finally done and working. If you see any issues with the site, please contact me: k@10km.org.
I’ve begun advertising using Project Wonderful. I’d like to see how well it works and maybe once I start generating traffic, I can put an ad box on my own site. We shall see! New content will be posted this week, I’m writing strips today and working on them this week now that the site is done!
A NOTE, TWO YEARS LATER: This strip is the only strip in the archive that has caused me to receive (a few) legitimately angry comments or emails. I just wanted to clarify my own position here. I’m not a democrat, nor am I a republican. I almost universally despise politicians of both parties and their ideologies. I do NOT hate people that vote republican nor is this strip REALLY about them. It’s about politicians using tactics to distract American Voters from real issues with a dog and pony show.
